How do I renew my library materials?
Renewing your library materials is easy, but there are a few things to keep in mind.
For example, renewing Interlibrary Loan materials is a different process than renewing standard library materials (i.e., Ohio University materials and OhioLINK). For this reason, we will take a look at each separately below.
Renewing Regular Library Materials
(Ohio University Libraries and OhioLINK materials)
Probably the simplest way to renew your materials is through your online library account.
- In the main menu of our homepage, look under My Accounts and select My Library Account.
- Once you log in, you will see the items you have checked out.
- You can pick which items you want to renew by selecting them and clicking the "Renew Marked" button at the bottom of the list. You can also click "Renew All" to renew everything you have checked out all at once.
Note that you can only renew materials once they are within a week of their due date.
Also, materials cannot always be renewed. Sometimes they might be at their renewal limit or on hold for someone else. If this happens, reach out to us and we will help you request a different copy or work something out.
Lastly, library staff are always happy to renew your materials for you! Stop by a service desk, call, text, chat, or send us an email and we will give you a hand.
Renewing Interlibrary Loan Materials
Interlibrary Loan materials must be renewed from within your interlibrary loan account. But how do you know if what you need to renew is an interlibrary loan item?
Interlibrary Loan materials typically have a green band to help you identify them.
You can also determine which materials are Interlibrary Loan items by checking your online library account.
In the list of materials you have checked out, the "Request" column will indicate whether an item is from Interlibrary Loan or not, as pictured below.
Not all Interlibrary Loan materials are eligible for renewal. This is often indicated on the label attached to the item if it is know at the time of checkout that renewals are not allowed.
To confirm if an item is renewable, and to request the renewal, you will need to login to your interlibrary loan account. In the main menu of our homepage, look under My Accounts and select My Interlibrary Loan Account.
Once you login, under the main page you will see a list of your interlibrary loan materials that are checked out. If they are eligible for a renewal, you can choose to renew by clicking on the green "Renew" button.
If it is not eligible for renewal and you need the resource for a longer period, you can choose to "Clone Request" by opening the "Actions" menu. This places an additional request for the same item. Our Interlibrary Loan department will then try to find another copy and follow up with you about it.
If you have any questions or trouble with your interlibrary loan requests, reach out to our help desk or contact our Interlibrary Loan department directly at ill@ohio.edu.
